OUR ORAL STORY

Our people come from the land of many waters.

Nukúru buni umana tãwa anãra nawa kóotu.

We were made red of the earth and with the great spirit that lives in us all.

Nayuk hára jekai rojo ti e'wa, na nu'na koyami yudíe itiya náyat.

Our land is fruitful and of plenty.

Nokono yereka di wetana, eni di wáiwani.

We sail the sea and work the land to the benefit of our people.

Aranáta yé riwa, arowaku pabai nu iri emá.

Our people are ancient and of a time immemorial.

Yamoe aponi ayi diikjaka a chika te mukuwa.

the first of many nations; we sailed far and wide wielding the keys of civilization.

na makuna itakire; nu hiraki sakwa na kasikire mimotiruyu.

Our arts made clear beneath the stars.

Nukuhiri awi ra ekhuna nu atir.

Always to return to the lands of our birth.

Nakai wáa ináma tuta akáka kótana.

Despite many invasions; where conquerors have tried to claim our story and erase us,

Fikiri naki menin; wanekere nu nakan ai wapisiri ta koro e wakiru,

we have survived to rebuild again.
